The University follows the Semester Pattern and Credit system of evaluation. The academic year is divided into 3 semesters. Each course shall have an integer number of credits, which reflects its weightage This helps the student to know the academic effort one has to put in, to successfully complete a course.
The system of evaluation in RGUKT is different from that of conventional universities. RGUKT has a multi-tier system of evaluation. There will be continuous assessment of students' performance throughout the semester and marks will be awarded. Each theory subject in a semester is evaluated for 100 marks, and the weightage of marks is given below:
The system of numerical marking is followed, and the marks secured in Weekly tests, Monthly tests and End examination are recorded and converted into grades as per the Seven-point grading scale.
S.No | Performance | Marks Percentage | Letter Grade |
1 | Excellent | >= 90% | E |
2 | Very good | >= 80% | A |
3 | Good | >= 70% | B |
4 | Fair | >= 60% | C |
5 | Average | >= 50% | D |
6 | Pass | >= 40% | P |
7 | Remedial | <=40% | F |
Students who have failed to earn minimum pass marks of 40% in each course/subject will have to appear for the backlog courses/subjects in the Remedial Examinations.If the marks of test are increased the same will be considered for declaration of result.
In order to provide an additional chance to students who fail in one or more theoretical or practical subjects in a semester, there will be a remedial examination equivalent to the end semester examination. However the grade of such student will be lowered down by one grade.ie If a student gets a 'B' grade it will be reduced to'C' grade. Student securing minimum grade for passing (i.e. grade 'P') will not be lowered. SGPA, CGPA will be calculated accordingly.
A semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) will be computed for each semester. The SGPA will be calculated as follows:
where Ci = Credit for the course. GPi = the Grade Point obtained for the course and the summation over all the courses taken in that semester and 'n' is the number of subjects registered for the semester.
A Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) will be computed for every student at the end of each semester. The CGPA would give the cumulative performance of a student from the first semester upto the end of the semester to which it refers and calculated as follows.
Where 'm' is the total number of semesters under consideration. Ci the total number of credit registered for during a particular semester and Si is the SGPA of that semester. Both SGPA and CGPA will be rounded off to the second place of decimal and recorded as such.
When a student gets the 'F' grade in any subject during a semester, the SGPA and the CGPA from that semester onwards will be tentatively calculated, taking only 'zero point' for each such 'F' grade. After the 'F' grade has been substituted by better grades during a subsequent remedial examination the SGPA and CGPA of all the semesters starting from the earliest semester in which the 'F' grade has been obtained, will be recomputed and recorded to take this change of grade into account.
RGUKT follows a grading method which is a mix of fixed and relative grading for evaluation and award of grades for Pre-University, B Tech and Dual degree programmes from the academic year 2010 - 2011.
